Cookie Policy
Last updated: 28 August 2026
This page covers the trakrun.com website. In short: no cookies are stored unless you accept them, we measure visits without cookies until you decide, rejecting stops that measurement completely, and you can change your mind at any time.
1. What cookies are
Cookies are small files a website asks your browser to store. Similar technologies — local storage, for one — do much the same job, and are covered by this policy too. They can be useful (remembering a choice) or intrusive (following you between sites); this site uses as few as it can.
2. What this site sets
Two things, and only one of them is a cookie:
| Name | Type | Purpose | Expires |
|---|---|---|---|
trakrun.cookie-consent | Local storage (not a cookie) | Remembers the choice you made about analytics, so you aren’t asked on every visit. Strictly necessary — this is the record of your decision. | Until you clear your browser data |
_ga, _ga_* | Analytics cookie (Google Analytics 4) | Recognises return visits, using a randomly generated ID. Only set if you accept. | 2 years |
There is no advertising, no cross-site tracking, no profiling, and nothing here is connected to your TrakRun account, your runs, or any health data.
3. What happens before you choose
We want to know roughly how many people visit and which pages they read, without waiting for a click to find out. So before you make a choice, Google Analytics runs in a restricted mode called Consent Mode: it records that a page was viewed, and sends your IP address and browser type to Google to do it, but it sets no cookies and keeps no identifier on your device. Google uses these signals to estimate overall traffic. Nothing is stored on your device, and you cannot be recognised on a return visit.
Our lawful basis for that limited processing is legitimate interests — understanding how a website performs — and because nothing is written to or read from your device, it does not require consent under the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations. Advertising, profiling and cross-site features are switched off outright and are never enabled, whatever you choose.
4. What changes when you choose
Accept lets Google Analytics set the cookies in the table above, so return visits can be recognised and the numbers get more accurate.
Rejectstops all of it. Google Analytics is not loaded at all on any further page you view — not even the script is requested — the measurement described above ceases, and any analytics cookie from a previous visit is deleted. We keep only the record that you said no. This is stricter than most sites, which continue the cookieless measurement after a refusal; we don’t think an objection should be treated as a preference.
5. Changing your mind
Use the Cookie settings link in the footer of any page to reopen the banner and make a different choice. Withdrawing consent is as easy as giving it, and takes effect immediately.
You can also clear or block cookies in your browser’s own settings — in Safari, Chrome, Firefox and Edge this is usually under Privacy. Blocking them entirely won’t break this site.
6. Google Analytics
Google Analytics 4 processes your IP address (used to derive a country, not stored by us), the pages you view, and general details like your browser — in the restricted mode described above before you choose, and in full if you accept. We see aggregate numbers, never individual visitors. Google acts as our data processor and its handling is governed by Google’s privacy policy. You can also install Google’s opt-out add-on to block it across every site.
7. The TrakRun app
The iOS and watchOS apps set no cookies — they aren’t browsers. What the app collects, and why, is in the Privacy Policy.
8. Changes
If we ever add a cookie for a new purpose, we’ll update this page and ask again — consent given for analytics isn’t consent for anything else.
